DONUT 10 RACE INSTRUCTIONS

THE DONUT 10
0730 NOVEMBER 20TH 2009

NUMBER COLLECTION

Numbers may be collected at the following venues

1. DRR Saturday 14th November
2. MM Monday 16th November
3. ABRa’S Wednesday 18th November
4. On the day.

Number collection on the day will be at the car park adjacent to the finish (see directions below). Between 0700 – 0720. To collect your number please show confirmation of entry.

THE COURSE

The course is virtually traffic free an entirely with the confines of Mushrif Park and consists of a short section on the road followed by three laps of the park on the cycle track. (subject to confirmation!)

LOCATION

The race will be held at Mushrif park, Dubai, past Mirdif on the Al Khawaneej Road. We have a special dispensation to enter the park from 0645 onwards. As no member of the Park department will be on duty a member of the Mirdif Milers will be collecting AED 10 per car at the entrance.

Parking will be at the far end of the entrance road keep going until you reach a T junction, park in the car park in front of you. (Same car park as for the Iftar 5K.) There will be a steward at the entrance of the correct car park.

THE RACE

The race will commence at 0730. Runners who finish in less than 60 minutes will receive a gold medal, less than 75 minutes a Silver medal, all other finishers a Bronze medal. Times will be recorded up to 2 hours, runners finishing in greater than 2 hours will receive a finishers medal but their time will not be recorded on the results. T shirts will be handed out to all finishers at the end of the race.

WATER STATIONS

There will be two water stations positioned approximately 2.5 K apart, the water station at the finish location will distribute water and a isotonic drink, the further water station will distribute water only.

PRIZES

Trophies will be awarded to the overall Male and Female winners. Vouchers will be given to the 2nd & 3rd place male and female finishers.

Teams prizes will be awarded as follows (each team to consist of 5 runners including at least 1 female)

1. The first five members of a running club to cross the finish line under the age of 45 on race day (Winners Open),
2. The second five members of a running club under the age of 45 to cross the finish line (Runners Up, Open )
3. The first five members of a running club to cross the finish line aged 45 or over on race day (Winner, Coffin Dodgers),
4. The Second five members of a running club to cross the finish line aged 45 or over on race day (Runners Up, Coffin Dodgers),

Only runners who have entered their club on the entry form will be eligible for the above purposes. No change of running club will be allowed after entry.

The overall team prize will be given to the first team of five to cross the line regardless of the age category they represent. Any runner over the age of 45 will only count as team member in the over 45 category.

Prize giving will be at the finish area at about 0915.

TOILETS

There are two toilet blocks approximately 400 metres from the finish area.

DONUTS

There will be Donuts available in the finish areas!

T SHIRTS

Race T shirts will be distributed at the finish, sizes are first come first served.

REFUNDS

No refunds will be given if you don’t attend.

HAIL THE COMRADE MILERS

COMRADES 2009

Seven Milers traveled to South Africa for Comrades 2009, the standard and quantity of training was different for each runner but the goal was the same, to run the 89 kilometers between Pietermaritzburg & Durban in less than 12 hours. Four of those seven were Comrade Novices and were about to find out just how much it hurts to run 90K. After all the training the “last supper” finally arrived and seven very stuffed Milers went to bed in the hope of getting some sleep.

On the day of the race were all up by 0230 for breakfast at 0300 and on our way to the start by 0330.. The Journey to the start from our hotel in Durban to Pietermaritzburg took over one hour during which the 4 Comrades Novices went quiet as they realized a) Just how far it is from Pietermaritzburg to Durban and b) just how many hills there are along the way! On arrival at the start there was just time to drop our bags and enter the seeded start pens.

At 0515 I was stood in the “C” pen listening to Shosholoza, Chariots of Fire and the famous Comrades Cockerel crow thinking to myself “you can do this Dave, Just do it”, the rest of the Milers were behind me in the “D” pen thinking there own thoughts but I somehow guess they were as apprehensive as me as to what faced us all for the next 9 to 12 hours.

The cannon fired and the field shuffled forward, no chip times in this race so crossing the line as quickly as possible is the order of the day. I crossed the line in about 2 minutes and then ran at the pace of those around me as given the width of the road and the volume of traffic that was the only option. I had a simple game plan, run each 5K split in less than 30 minutes, and pass halfway in the range of 4 hours 10 mins – 4 hours 20 mins.

The first 20K or so of the Comrades Down run are anything but down, I had forgotten just how much the course went up! After 8 – 9K we cleared Pietermaritzburg and ran down Polly Shorts Hill with the sun rising in front of us, it was beautiful and I was feeling good, I began to believe it was MY day. I passed through Camperdown at 27K in 2hours 33 mins, looking good! Kept moving on until we arrived at Inchanga hill, I was still feeling good but made a conscious decision to run / walk the hill to keep something in the bank. Fifty paces run , 50 paces walk all the way to the top, high fives with all the kids form the orphanage at the top, as usual their smiling faces almost broke my heart, they have so little but their smiles light up the world.

Half way at Drummond came up in 4 hours 16 minutes. I stopped just short of the mat to speak to Tristan a young lad who has cerebral palsy and his mum gave me a bottle of partly frozen Energade, boy that tasted good! It was just starting to get hot now but not exactly scorching by Dubai standards.

After half way comes Botha’s hill. This has been my graveyard before but kept to my run walk strategy all the way up, this was the only 5K split which crept above 30 minutes but I was happy with that there was plenty in reverse. As I ran down through Hillcrest my knees began to really hurt, time for the Brufen 600 which was waiting for a moment like this. Five minutes after taking the brufen the pain eased and I was back to the normal aches and pains of Ultra running at the same time the sky clouded over and the temperature dropped.

It was starting to get tough now but the dream burnt brightly in my mind, that Bill Rowan was there in front of me still out of reach but coming closer, oh how I wanted that little bit of worthless metal, sod the pain its relative give me the bloody medal, run Dave run. Fortunately after Hillcrest the real downhill of the down run begins and I found it relatively easy to keep moving along at 5-15 min/K. Winston park at 58K came up in 5-38, still on schedule.

After the long run down Fields hill I hit the long endless flat straight road through Pinetown I have always hated this stretch of the route, but this year I keep moving, keep dreaming, keep smiling I know that once I get over Cowies hill at the end of this endless straight I will be able to see the sea, if I can see the sea the end must be coming.

Run / walk Cowies Hill reach the top at 71K in 6-50, I can see the Sea!!! There is only a half marathon to go, come on Dave ½ marathons are easy so get on with it boy. Around now it begins to dawn on me that I have been overtaking people ever since half way and I’m not aware of many going past me, my addled brain is desperately trying to compute the worse case scenario of if I had to walk to the end from here but that’s far too much like hard work, easier to keep running.

The last cut off point at the 45th Cutting looms into sight in 7-58, 7K to go and one hour to do it in, Now I begin to truly believe and begin to celebrate, anyone who calls out “Go Dubai” gets a huge grin and a clenched fist salute, knowing that I could walk and still finish in under 9 hours is such a relief and no longer do I have to concentrate on keeping to a pace though surreally I begin to speed up!

At last the stadium comes into view, as I enter I’m not aware of anything other than I’ve bloody well done it , I’ve run a sub 9 hour Comrades I’m going to get a Bill Rowan medal…….. f….ing hell how did I do that? The clock shows 8hours 40 minutes as I cross the line with a silent prayer to all who helped and put up with me over the past six months.

I make my way to the international tent where I find official Miler “Groupie” Tom Connor taking photos and Darryl Chiles of the ABRa’S clutching a Silver Medal. Astonishingly Darryl has just run two back to back 3-30 Marathons to finish in 7 hours 29 minutes , this by a man who has only been running for 18 months.

It is no surprise that the next Miler to come into sight is Sara Connor who finishes in 9 hours 22 minutes. Sara has had a fantastic season a win at the Dead Sea and now a Comrades medal, we all wonder just how far this girl can go. I spent the last half of the race looking over my shoulder to see if she was catching me!

Next home is Chris Homann in 9 hours 34 minutes, Chris has probably done the least training of all of us as a result of a combination of injury, work, etc so this is a fantastic effort though of course the man has history with a 7 hours 52 minutes finish back in 1994.

Chris Little trots home in 9 hours 41 minutes, Chris has also battled with injuries, fatigue and lately a “Cyclops” syndrome, still he seems to have seen enough to reach the stadium and more importantly he wore his Milers vest rather than his gay boy white offering.

Fellow Comrades Novice Malcolm Gatenby storms home in 9 hours 58 minutes having in his own words “lost it” after half way. Fortunately Malcolm jumped onto the 10 hour bus and was pulled along whilst waving his hands in the air and learning the words to several Zulu running songs. I fear we have created a monster……. Sorry Sheena.

Coming home together are Martin Scadden and that Traitor Colin Foreman who travels with us but wears a Dubai Creek Striders vest, they finish together in 10 hours 40 minutes having spent the first half of the run “selecting” ladies for their fictional running calendar, anything to keep you distracted boys! The miracle was that Dunkin could actually run at all after his spectacular carbo loading effort. To anyone who has not witnessed this phenomena sign up for 2010 now!

Last miler home is Gavin Loy in 10 hours 49 minutes, as limps into the International tent he heard to mutter “I’ll train for it next time!”. Well we all thought that the 6 week training plan was probably a bit short.

We all stay in the stadium for the drama of the 12 hour cutoff. No open route in this race, at 1730 the Comrades Chairman stands with his back to the oncoming runners and fires the finishing gun, if you haven’t crossed the line you are a DNF regardless. Its cruel, its dramatic and watching those last desperate souls scrambling for the line will live in your memory for ever. The difference between ecstasy and despair can be 1 second.

THE QUEEN OF SHEBA AND HER CONSORTS TRIUMPH AT DEAD SEA

The Dead Sea Marathon & Ultra brought the Milers their very first international trophy in the ultra event when Sara Connor lead the Milers home in a fantastic 4 hours - 05 mins - 39 seconds. Congratulations! following Sara home was Chris Little in hard run 04-08 minutes. Dominic Pilkington finished his 3rd marathon in 6 months in 3 hours 56 minutes & Tom Connor completed the 10K in around 51 minutes. Well done to all the Dubai runners who competed.

ABRa'S 10K MORAL VICTORY FOR MILERS

Another weekend another race, this time around it was the ABRa'S 10K at Mina Seyahi. A fantastic turnout saw over 300 finishers at this well organised event. Milers were to the fore in all age groups and overall winner was Chris McCann in 35 minutes 18 seconds.

Milers were as per the official results 3rd in the team contest but as we all know we won in reality, the first time we have beaten the ABRa'S! Milers were second in the veterans team event. Beside the obvious highlights of having the individual champion, the M40 champion, team champions it is our pleasure to report that a certain Mr Malcom Murphy of DCS fame was lapped by Chris McCann! Thanks to the ABRa'S for organising another top class event.

Yet more good performances from the Milers at the DRR 10K race, as usual Chris McCann lead us home taking 4th place overall. Marcia Adams was 4th overall in the female race and the stand out performance of the day has to be young Brodie Wells, 13 minutes 13 seconds for a lap of Safa Park! It won't be long before he is challenging Chris for the club championship!
It was wonderfull to see so many mini milers joining in, the next generation is coming! Thanks to Graham and his team for a great event.

THE HOTTEST RACE IN TOWN!

On the hottest day of the year to date the Mirdif Milers held their 2nd 10 Mile race around Mushrif Park. At the crack of 0833 Dunkin Scadden shouted "Go" and the race was on. All the usual suspects were out and about and it was no surprise to see Neil Tate, Nick Berrill, Chris McCann & Andy Keron in the lead pack. Though less familiar faces to us all amongst the leaders were the new arrivals of Paul Holley and Murphy's new star Anne-Mari Hyryläinen.

As the race went on the temperature seemed to rise ever higher and areas of shade ever less and the "bloody" hill seemed twice as high the second
time around. As Paul Holley wilted in the burning Arabian sun Neil Tate spurred on no doubt by the thought of free DoNuts at the finish carried on to win in a fantastic time of 59 minutes 15 seconds ahead of the wilting Paul Holley who finished in a still very impressive 59-37. First lady home was Anne-Mari Hyryläinen in 8th place overall and 65-38.

The Club Championship went to the ABRa's with a total of 40 points, second were the Mirdif Milers with 101 points just edging out the Dubai Creek Striders who amassed 103 points.

Who knows we may even get the trophy engraved before next's years race!

As always no race would be run without the help and support of friends, families and injured runners! So thank you to all who gave up their time to help support the milers by manning water stations, taking entries, handing out medals etc. Further thanks to Dubai Parks Department for letting us run in the park, Dunkin DoNuts for the post race "fuel", Oasis water & Spinneys for providing liquids for the hot and bothered.

We hope to you all had a wonderful run and that you will all be back for the third running of the Milers 10 Mile race.

R.A.K. Half Marathon 2009

It was a day of PB's for the Milers at Ras Al Khaimah on Friday 20th February. A truely well organised event with a flat fast course inspired the milers to produce their best performances of the season. Well done to all and a big thanks to Nathan the Race Director for putting on a great event.

THE MOUNTAIN TURNED YELLOW

The Milers went to the mountain and turned it yellow. Eight Miler teams completed the ultimately futile task of running to the top of the Mountain and back at Wadi Bih. Leading us home were the MM Sprinters in 4:47:19 and 5th Place overall, at 9th place were the MM Trotters in 5:13:54, at 14th were the MM Wasters in 5:25;28, 35th were the MM Dawdlers in 5:55:30, followed by the MM Waddlers in 38th place and 5:59:00, 52nd were the MM Ditherers in 6:13:55, MM wanderers strolled home at 64th place and 6:27:47. The MM crawlers allegedly finished!

One hundred and two teams registered a finish so the Milers can be very proud to have put three teams into the top 14 places.

In true Milers style at least half of the teams got lost on the way to the start. The MM crawlers made a 10 year old girl run up the hill for them and Natalie Van Cleave made the dumbest decision of her life by asking to run the next section as well straight up the escarpment.

Many Milers stayed over at the Golden Tulip and the Zebra Bar has now become a Milers local!

Congratulations to all the Milers who made it a a very special club day out, may we turn many races Yellow.

RULES FOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP
1 First six finishers from each club regardless of sex or age will count.
2 Each entrant must state his /her club on their entry
3 No changes of club from that stated on the entry form will be accepted
4 Multiple teams from each club will be counted, thus one club can finish 1,2 & 3

The race will be held on the virtually traffic free route around Mushrif Park and will consist of two laps.
There is a AED 10 entrance fee per car to enter the park.
There will be two water tables on the route at approximately 4K intervals.

A cool morning perfect for running saw 16 Milers run Dubai Marathon with a further 3 in the 10K. Considering that 2008 saw 3 milers in the marathon this represents a huge leap forward for the Milers. DUNKIN SCADDEN FINDS HAPPINESS AT RAK 1/2

WADI BIH COME RUN WITH US 13TH FEBRUARY 2009

The Wadi Bih relay is being run on the 13th February, Mirdif Milers have a proud history of participation in this event and we want to see as many MM vests on the hills as we can. Full details of the event can be found at http://www.wadibih.com/ but in short its about 37K up the hill and 37K back down the hill. Teams of five which must include one female or a veteran male 50+. Each runner runs three or four legs giving a total for the day of 15- 20K. A Meal is served at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Dibba on completion of the run. We are presently looking into booking accommodation at the hotel for a MM social, probably the night after the race. If travelling there and back on the day allow for a 0500 Mirdif departure with return @ 1700. Will all those interested please contact Dave on djackson@nobledenton.com. Come join us for a day in the mountains. One rule only if you run for a MM team you wear our club vest.

Once again the Milers were out in force supporting local events, three teams toed the line looking for glory. Each team member ran one 2.55K lap of creek park the aim being to predict the total time for the whole 12.75K, it turns out that were not very good at that!

A Stellar performance from Chris McCann took first place for the milers in a superb 59 minutes 25 seconds. Other Miler performances were Dave Jackson 71 minutes 31 seconds, Andrew Gregory 79 minutes 07 seconds, Graham Rafferty making his debut as a racing miler 80 minutes 43 seconds, Dunkin Scadden 85 minutes and 03 seconds.

THE TWELVE COMMANDMENTS OF CHAMPIONS

The twelve commandments of Champions as per Barry Magee, Bronze medal winner at the Rome olympics and now a coach

1. They never give up.

2. They train 80% solo as they can get the pace right and learn how to fight alone.

3. They know that a race never really starts until half way or further.

4. It is not life or death if they can not train - it is much more serious than that (Love it!)

5. If the can not win, they will try for 2nd or 3rd or whatever.

6. If they lose they will come back next time to fight again and again and again

7. They do not know what they can not do!

8. They do not tell others what they can do - they show them.

9. If they are sick they go straight to bed after training.

10. They train once a day if they are sick or crippled with injury - otherwise at least twice a day.

11. They know they can run 30kms or more anytime because they have done it in training.

12. They always help and encourage lesser mortals because they know that they meet the same people on the way down as on the way up.

The Mirdif Miler 10 Mile race will be held at Mushrif Park on the 27th February 2009.

The MM host the DCS run this Friday 12th December 2008 starting at Khawaneej Vets at 0600. Monday runs will continue to be held in Mushrif Park at least until the end of December when "the committee" will make a decision on whether to return to the republic.

On a perfect day for running the Milers had their largest entry yet, fifteen Milers towed the line, fourteen of us even managed to finish. There were some fantastic performances particuarly from Chris McCann, Malcolm Gatenby & Anne Scadden. Proof if it was needed that Saturday morning runs in Khawaneej make you quicker. Our Illustrious chairman Martin Scadden rounded off a truely awful week by dropping out on the Maktoum Bridge there is apaprently no truth in the rumour that the waft of cooking bacon from the Golf Club was the cause of his early departure from the course. THE SOCIAL ELEMENT

Following the run copious amounts of beer were consumed firstly in a Beer Garden in the middle of an allotment plot (we find them!) thence to the Hofhaus for the traditional steins of beer, it went downhill from then on.

Once again we will be running our club championship, however with a slightly different method from last year. last year the male and Female club champions were the only two to complete all three of the designated races, given that we all get injured, travel etc we have come up with a different format for this season to give more members a chance to become the club champion.

Award will be made based upon your best four results from the following scheduled races:

All results will be age graded to a 30 year old Male or Female as applicable.
Points will be awarded based upon your race position after age grading relative to the other Competing MMMembers. The higher you finish in the respective male / female field the lower your points i.e. 1st place receives one point, 2nd place receives two points, etc.

The title of Club Champion will be awarded to the male and female with the lowest points total from their best four races. In the event of a draw for Club Champion the results of those drawing will be extended to consider the best five results, the best six results, etc, until a clear champion is established.

Only those running in Mirdif Milers vest will be eligible. At least one counting race must be a half or full marathon.

MILER THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

Monday 22nd September saw a record turnout of 22 Milers for the Monday run a fair number of whom travelled from the far reaches of the city for the chance to run with our famous club! As a result of our increase in numbers we increasingly get new members joining whom might not be familiar with our routes and whom perhaps need to run with us a few times before the hit the average speed of the pack, with this in mind we are introducing a designated "back marker" on each Monday run. The back marker is to ensure that they stay at the back and encourage any slower members along making sure they don't get lost along the way. Each week we will appoint two "back markers' one for the run too West Zone and a second for the second half of the run. Appointment of the designated "back markers" will be made by one of the Chairman / Vice Chairman / technical director / sponser on the day dependeent upon whether we have any new members and who of the regular crew is there. Clearly this policy will enable us to encourage new members to return and hopefully soon become regular active club members

SATURDAY RUNS

With the coming of winter and the approach of the racing season a reminder that we run every Saturday morning in the wilds of Khawaneej. We meet at the Muncipal Vets just past the first roundabout after Mirdif on the Airport / Khawaneej road. Start time and distances vary and are announced by email usually on Thursday. If you haven't tried running in the smog & traffic free trails of this area do come and join us were sure you will enjoy its.

SATURDAY 27th September 0530 at the vets for 20K ish. Bring AED 5 for drinks.

The record turnout on a Saturday to date is 10 it would be nice to beat that!

MIRDIF MILERS AT MUNICH MARATHON THE MASTER RACE!

It was good to see Richard Thomas back in the Milers Vest, welcome back! Hopefully Richard will get fit and lead us to glory this season at Wadi Bih.
My own personal battle with our illustrious sponsor and Social secretary Malcolm G went right to the line, next time Malcolm will know not to kick for the line so soon, but a 2 minute improvement on his 5K PB in one year is a huge leap forward.

THE NEW SEASON DAWNS

The teachers are back (its like the first sighting of the swallow) so it must be time to start racing again! First up is the Iftar challenge on September 18th.

Eight Milers have signed up for Munich Marathon and we have agreed to allow one Creek strider to tag along though of course he will be banished from all club photos!

We continue to run on Monday evenings and Saturday mornings, if anyone is thinking of doing Dubai Marathon in January it will soon be time to consider joining us on a Saturday morning. At the moment we have two start times of 0500 & 0530 at the Muncipal vets in Khaneej no doubt this will soon revert to 0530 & 0600.

Officially we start training in June but in the meanwhile its time to put on those trainers and get some base miles in. Our training through the summer will in short consist of aerobic runs, speed sessions & Long slow distance. 12th October 2008 Munich Marathon. The annual Milers boys weekend away will be to Munich Marathon departing Dubai Friday 10th October, arriving back late on Monday 13th October. CLUB NEWS OR THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

The summer is upon us and the racing season grinds to a close but somethings remain constant and the Milers carry on running don't forget the following

a) May Social 04th May 2008, probably at Dubliners. Turn up for the Monday run and all will be revealed!

b) Saturday runs, after heavy pressure (well Ok the Vice Chairman & Technical Director Have decided) meet at the Municipal vets, Khaneej 0600 each Saturday for 15 - 20K ish in the country side, short cuts and extensions are always available particularly if we get lost. If you haven't experienced running in the countryside away fro road works / traffic / kerbs etc come and join us.

c) Martin & Colin are training hard for Comrades, so if you fancy any silly distance training runs give Martin a call and I'm sure he will oblige.

d) ABRA's 10K Mina Seyahi 23rd may 0700. Come and support this race but make sure to wear your Milers kit.

Only two milers completed all three races of the Club Championship. They were Elaine Forsythe & Malcolm Gatenby.

AGE EQUIVILANT TIMES for the Dubai Creek Striders half Marathon / Dubai Road Runners 10K & Mirdif Milers 10 Miles were as follows respectively.

Malcolm 1 hour- 39 mins - 28 secs / 40 mins -37 secs / 1 hour- 14 mins -47 secs. Aggregate Time 3 hours - 34 - 52 secs

Elaine ran a half marathon to help our appeal
‘It was the ideal way to raise cash’
By Robert Wight ALTHOUGH Dundonian Elaine Forsythe has lived in Dubai for the last 13 years, she makes sure she keeps up to date with all the latest news from home by logging on to The Sunday Post website each week.It was there that teacher Elaine learned about our Sick Children’s Appeal — and when she read our readers’ touching stories and about all the good that comes from their generous donations, she knew she just had to help.Elaine (45) [left] is a keen amateur athlete and a member of the Dubai running club, the Mirdif Milers, which includes a couple of other expat Scots in its ranks.EagerThe runner had been planning to take part in the RAK International Half Marathon, held in February in the United Arab Emirate of Ras al-Khaimah and billed as “the richest half marathon in the world”.The event, in only its second year, attracts top runners from around the globe eager to compete for the US $180,000 prize money.And although Elaine realised it was unlikely she’d be competing for the title, she reckoned it was still the ideal chance to raise money for our appeal.“The Sick Children’s Appeal has special significance for me because one of the hospitals you’re helping is Ninewells in my home town of Dundee,” said Elaine. “Staff in all four hospitals do a great job and I thought it’d be nice to contribute something, so I went round colleagues, friends and family to try to raise some sponsorship for the run.”Elaine, who teaches at the Emirates International Primary School, managed to raise £110 and completed the half marathon, the 11th she’s run, in a highly respectable one hour 57 minutes — her best time.TemperaturesTo avoid the worst of the Middle East heat — even at this time of year temperatures can easily reach 30 C and higher — the race started at 7.30 am, but the mercury was still nudging 22 C.“It wasn’t easy but I enjoyed it,” said Elaine. “And the pain of running 13 miles was nothing compared to what sick children and their families endure.”Elaine lives in Dubai with husband Dave (47), a physical education teacher at the Emirates International School, and their daughter Kirsten (13).The family return to Scotland every year on holiday and, although they miss home, they’ve no intention of returning any time soon.Elaine said, “We’ve lots of family who live in the Dundee area and it’s great going back for a visit, but our home’s in Dubai. “Our daughter was only a few months old when we moved, so it’s all she knows.“Dubai’s a great place to live — there’s very little stress, the climate’s great and the people are friendly. We love our life here.”

WADI BIH 2008

Elites, Stragglers and Waddlers excelled themselves at Wadi Bih finishing 2nd, 20th & 25th out of 62 teams who completed the course. True heros of the day were Amelia and Jim who ran the whole course solo.

MARATHON MILERS

Three Milers went to run went to run the marathon, resplendent in the new Kit. There were several "Milers" who were unsure of their allegiance and ran in some other clubs kit. They know who they are and can expect the Emperors wrath to know no bounds.

Congratulations to all who finished the marathon regardless of their club but especially to our Emperor Scadden the Humongous who thrashed his PB to finish in 3-56 ish, High Chancellor Dave who padded safely to C grading for Comrades in 3-38 ish and technical Director Chris McCann with a scorching 2-57 ish. The times are ish as despite the Dubai Marathon web site claiming that results "will be published within 24 hours of the event" results are outstanding at the time of writing. Doesn't that kit look good? Thanks Anne for all the running around to have three sets ready for Friday.

MIRDIF MILERS 10 MILE RACE 15TH FEBRUARY 2008

You too can experience the elation of being this happy when you complete the inaugural Mirdif Milers 10 Mile race at 0900 on the 15th February 2008. The course will be four laps of the scenic Mushrif Park which of course means four times up the hill!

Entries will be accepted on the Dubai Road Runners web site from the 01st February 2008. In line with the ethos of our club we intend to give medals to all finishers (subject to being able to purchase what we require in time) with Gold / Silver & Bronze medals to the first three male & female finishers, there will be no age category prizes.

Additionally we intend to hold a club competition where the first 6 finishers from each club count with the lowest aggregate based on finishing positions will win the coveted MIRDIF MILERS trophy to be retained for one year. So please ensure that you enter the club of your affiliation when entering. We hope to see a large turnout from The Creek Striders, Road Runners, ABRaS, EHAC & Abu Dhabi Striders for this new prestigious club competition. Entry fees will be announced shortly.
